75 Hard: Week 3 – Finding my Stride

It’s week 3 of 75 hard. 21 days in and I feel like I’ve hit a small bit of a groove. Some small struggles along the way, but nothing that’s caused any stress and I’ve yet to lose the drive to complete any part of this. I also have yet to wake up and just tell me self, “Not today!”. I am not ignorant to believe this will maintain and hold course over the next 50 plus days but I am optimistic that it won’t be too overwhelming when it happens.

THE EASY:

No Alcohol – I am not a big alcohol drinker. I regularly tell people I got all the party and drinking parts of college out of the way in high school, so by the time I became an adult who was legally of age to drink… I had lost my taste for it. I’ve gone over a full year without alcohol recently, and while I don’t know the exact current length, an additional 75 days is a cake walk.

Gallon of Water – I’m already a damn camel. I absolutely love water and have my whole life! When I first started at my current job, I was drinking two gallons a day MINIMUM. I was also sweating over half that away, but it never bothered me. Outside of the no alcohol, this is probably the next easiest thing I’ve done for the last 3 weeks.

THE MOSTLY EASY:

Outdoor Workout – I’ve always loved walking. From back when I was a teenager and would do laps around my neighborhood growing up, to just walking around random parks or stores. I had actually started walking again a month before I started 75 Hard, so picking it up as my outdoor workout was easy… for the most part. Unfortunately 43 year old Brandon nis not in the same shape 17 year old Brandon was in. I likely need back and knee surgery at my current age so some days the walk is not the most fun thing in the world. But it’s still enjoyable.

10 Pages of Reading – I used to read non stop when I was younger. I eventually transitioned to Audiobooks because they allowed me to MultiTask. Unfortunately 75 hard requires you tto sit and read a physical book for 10 pages. And not just any book, a Self Help book. And you can’t just start a new book, you have to finish it. Which can SUUUUUCK if the book can’t hold my attention. That’s my current issue. But it is still reading so while I have issues with what it is, it’s not difficult to actually do it.

CHALLENGING

A Diet – The only real reason this is challenging is because I chose low carb (no not KETO, just low carb. 50-100 carbs a day. I have a minor personal goal to keep it under 70 grams a day. The reason this is an issue though is because I struggle to hit all the other things at a normal level. Most days I finish in a calorie deficit but only because I’m not eating enough. While part of that is directly because of the diet, the other part is just finding time to eat.

Second 45 Minute Workout – I’ve utilized Chat GPT for writing me 45 minute exercises for me to do. I have one using weights, one requiring the use of a chair (when my back and knee are hurting), one composed of 45 minutes of stretching/light yoga. The hard part though? Finding the time to do it. I work a full time job, as well as being a full time husband and father. After work, during work, during lunch, right before bed. It’s been the hardest part to accomplish. I keep waking up every morning and making sure it’s the first decision I make.

21 days down, 54 to go. Let’s keep fucking go.
